We’ve been extremely well fed during the Winter Elf Scheme… in fact it’s become something of a focus as each week one of the team has cooked up a storm using as much local produce as possible. We’ve enjoyed using our veg share from Canalside Community Food to make seasonal lunches; stews, soups, curries, veggie burgers, salads and more, with pumpkin featuring quite heavily thanks to a HUGE squash harvest this year! It’s amazing what you can create with the food we grow on the farm and even the avid meat eaters in the group have commented that veggie food is ok! Cake has also been a pretty import feature of the day – delicious apple cake using fruit harvested from around the community and Canalside beetroot brownies are some examples of the many tasty treats we’ve shared.
It’s been great to use our new fire pit and we’ve enjoyed building it together to keep warm and spent many hours sitting around it talking and eating. Last week the group cooked lunch together for the first time on the fire – root vegetable stew – and it was a great success. Somehow food is tastier eaten outside and created together!
